His writing has been described as darkly ironic, wickedly funny and deeply harrowing. My kind of writer.
There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed.
I finally got around to reading George Saunders last month when I dove into his collection of short fiction, Pastoralia. This led to an immediate George Saunders frenzy that bordered on obsession. In the wake of my mania after Pastoralia, I had quickly devoured The Brief and Frightening Reign of Phil, Civilwarland In Bad Decline, and In Persuasion Nation.
I am saving his most recent collection The Tenth of December for later because it makes me happy to know there is a collection of his fiction I haven’t yet read.
In pursuit of better storytelling, and growth as a writer, I have decided to enroll at the University of Tampa’s Low Residency MFA program in Creative Writing.
