Wislawa Szymborska On The Soul

Nobel Prize winning Poet, Wislawa Szymborska, died today at the age of 88. Her poetry is shockingly beautiful and moving. This is my favorite of her works.

A Few Words On The Soul

We have a soul at times.
No one’s got it non-stop,
for keeps.

Day after day,
year after year
may pass without it.

Sometimes
it will settle for awhile
only in childhood’s fears and raptures.
Sometimes only in astonishment
that we are old.

As above, so below.

“In the universe,
there are things that are known,
and things that are unknown, and in between,
there are doors.”

- William Blake

I should be reading more Blake.

If you are to write well you must come to terms with the enormous and powerful part of your nature which lies behind the threshold of immediate knowledge.

10 Rules For Writing Fiction

Inspired by Elmore’s Leonard’s 10 Rules of Writing, The Guardian asked noted authors about their rules for writing fiction, which include these indispensable tips:

Get an accountant, abstain from sex and similes, cut, rewrite, then cut and rewrite again – if all else fails, pray.

There are two parts, both are fantastic.

Brilliant idea.

Gorgeous product. I want one (Actually, several all of them).

The Post Punk Kitchen

My favorite Vegan food site. The recipes are delicious and the food photography puts me in a perpetual state of hunger.

How wonderful that one can see the entire collection on Hulu.

Truffaut, Berman, Kurosawa—so much vision and creativity.

Also, fantastic trailer for the online collection.

Fascinating Tedx talk by Jacques Vallée in Brussels on A Theory of Everything(Else).

Myth is the secret opening through which the inexhaustible energies of the cosmos pour into human manifestation.
